The famous bandit leader, Isya Akwashi Garwa, has released 28 victims he kidnapped in the Fascari Regional Government in the state of Katsina after a peaceful meeting that he held with traditional authorities and local residents in the area.
According to security experts in the region, Zagazola Makama, Garwa who was on the desired list of the Nigerian security agency, handed over prisoners to local government council officials on Wednesday a few days after many discussed about peaceful agreements.
Makama who posted news and photos of prisoners released in his X grip on Thursday, said that those who were released were mostly residents of the Mairua, Kanen-Haki, and Yar Dabaru community, who had been detained by the bandits for several weeks.
“Local authorities confirm that the release is the result of an ongoing reconciliation effort aimed at restoring peace and reducing violent attacks in the region,” Makama wrote.
“A source of security also revealed that the leaders of the community in Faskari welcomed the development as a positive signal, urged both parties to maintain the peace process that began in the area to restore peace and reduce violence attacks.
“A board official, who spoke on anonymous condition, said:” The prisoners were released this afternoon without paid ransom. The leader of the bandit fulfilled his promise under a peaceful conversation.
“Meanwhile, residents expressed relief of the safe return of the kidnappers, with some calling for a stronger security guarantee to consolidate the movement.
“They also appealed to the leader of Bandits to win on other groups who were still carrying out attacks in the area to stop.”
