The Kogi State Government has dismissed reports of Governor Usman Ododo’s planned defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The government was reacting to reports by online platforms that the governor was considering switching to the main opposition party.
The report comes after photos emerged showing Ododo with some PDP governors at an event held in Jalingo, Taraba State, on Friday.
The Supreme Court on the same day upheld the governor’s victory in the state’s November 16, 2023 election.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, described the report as “frivolous and unprofessional.”
He added that the report was the work of criminals who had not yet been able to overcome the shock of their defeat in the Supreme Court.

The statement read: “The attention of the Kogi State Government has been drawn to frivolous and unprofessional media reports that the State Governor is considering disbanding the All Progressives Congress. We will ignore such blatant lies but we are duty-bound to provide true and adequate information to the public.
“The proponents of the lie are people who are still regretting their dismal failure in court and are probably trying to find a back door to the All Progressives Congress, therefore they are using the only tools they have, which are lies, propaganda, misinformation and disinformation.
“The photo in circulation was taken at the wedding ceremony of the daughter of the Governor of Taraba State, His Excellency Agbu Kefas, which was attended by dignitaries from across the country, including the Vice President of Nigeria, His Excellency Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, as well as governors from various parties. His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo was present at the event to pay homage to the daughter of a colleague, as other governors do.
“Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo just yesterday won in the Supreme Court with the support of his party. It is not smart to imply that the Governor abandoned the party that supported him during the election and court process. Their lies are crumbling like a house of cards.”
