The DSS captures arms couriers, recovers RPGs, rescues kidnapping victims

Department of State Services (DSS) operatives have arrested two suspected arms couriers, seized two Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) warheads, an RPG launcher and other items linked to bandit networks in Gombe State

The suspects, Muhammed Alhaji Mohammed, 55; and Sani Gesha, 47; were intercepted in Mararaban Tula, Kaltungo Local Government Area, while traveling in a gray Toyota Corolla with Taraba registration number JAL475YQ.

Security sources said the operation was a result of covert surveillance by a bandit cell led by a known bandit involved in arms trafficking in Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba and Adamawa states.

“The officers monitored the trafficking syndicate for over 3 weeks before launching an operation. The operation was conducted in a professional manner and the suspects were arrested with a huge cache of weapons and ammunition,” the source revealed.

“During investigation the suspects confessed that the consignment was billed to be delivered to one Ardo Hamma Ari, a resident of Kukawa village in Alkaleri LGA, Bauchi State,” the source added.

In connection with this, officers also rescued a six-year-old boy, identified as Mohammed Jabir, in Gyada village, Talase, Balanga LGA, Gombe State.

‘Mohammed was kidnapped by one Salisu Hussain on the pretext of teaching him to ride a motorbike. When the kidnapping was reported, DSS officers responded promptly, taking the boy to safety. The kidnapper has also been arrested,’ the source confirmed.

While handing Mohammad over to his parents, they expressed gratitude to the DSS for their son’s safe return.

“The suspects are currently in DSS custody and will soon be arraigned in court,” the source said.
