Kogi leads to health insurance coverage – Thage

By Joseph Amedu, Lokoja

The state of Kogi emerged as a more performing state of Nigeria in insurance coverage for adults, with 11% of its registered population, according to the new 2023 data of Statisense and Efina.

This figure places Kogi in front of Lagos (9%), Oyo (7%) and Federal Capital Territory (6%), underlining the state’s commitment in the expansion of quality health quality and affordable prices.

At the center of these progress is the Kogi State Health Insurance Agency (Kgshia), led by Dr. Kunle Aledare, whose approach focused on people led aggressive inscriptions, rural awareness and partnerships that offer inclusive and sustainable health funding. Thousands of rural and underlying residents can now access essential health services without fear of financial ruin.

The government spokesman, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, noticed:

“These data confirm that the administration of the governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is deeply committed to improving the health and well -being of the Kogiti. With the leadership of Dr. Alendare, we are not only building hospitals but a health system that really works for everyone.”

Fanwo added that other states are already studying the Kogi model while the administration approaches universal health coverage.

In a further thrust to extend health care at affordable prices, the State Government of Kogi has recently signed a reference pact with the Nigeria Union of employees of the local government (Nulge), providing the local government staff with access to accessible prices for the state regime. The secretary of the state government, Mrs. Folashade Ayoade, signed the agreement on behalf of the state, describing it as a “turning point”.

Fanwo explained that the initiative also covers pensioners, with thousands of kogi retirees already enrolled and recording in progress for others.

“We are actively playing our pensioners, in line with the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to guarantee economic health care, of quality and accessible for pensioners and low income earnings,” he said.

To support the launch, the government is updating over 200 primary health centers throughout the state to ensure basic quality care access.

Fanwo greeted the federal government for its support, ensuring public employees, local government operators and retirees that the Ododo administration will continue to build a healthy, enhanced and productive population as a basis for sustainable development.
