The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, on Thursday urged the federal government to prioritize food security in all national plans.
The cleric called investing as the guardian of the Nigerian Food Science and Technology Institute (NIFST) in Abuja.
He said Nigerians should not be hungry or poor, given the abundant human resources and materials in the country.
Kukah said: “Poverty is loss of dignity, and there must be a crisis when a man cannot provide for his family.”
President Nifst, Dr. Osinowo ball, said the current global food crisis has had a significant impact on developing countries.
He said: “Our country is at a crossroads, and the role of nifst to improve this challenge should not be underestimated.
“Food science plays an important role in overcoming this crisis by offering solutions to increase food production, sustainable agricultural practices, and food preservation.
“We need to support the government at all levels to eradicate poverty through food security.”
