Lagos fire accident: more losses when the toll d £ increases

The budget of the victims from the fire that enveloped Afriland Towers on Broad Street, Lagos, Tuesday, has risen to at least 10 while the financial service company, United Capital Plc, confirmed the loss of six of its employees.

In a declaration, United Capital expressed “deep pain” for the disappearance of his colleagues, describing them as “integral part of our company and family”.

The company said that the loss leaves an “immeasurable emptiness” and has announced that preparations are underway for a commemorative service.

The latest confirmation of United Capital is added to the four victims previously reported by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

FIRS had announced that four of his staff members include Mrs. Ekelikhostse George, Mr. David Sunday-Jetto, Mrs. Nkem Onyemelukwe and Mr. Peter Ifaranmaye died from inhalation of smoke after being trapped in the sixth and seventh floor.

The fire, which is believed to have originated in the inverter room in the basement of the building, quickly spread smoking through the multiple floors.

The occupants, including the staff of United Capital, FIRS and a branch of the United Bank for Africa (UBA), were seen in an attempt to escape the windows while the dense smoke filled the upper floors.

UBA also recognized the loss of some members of his staff in the accident, although he has not yet provided specific numbers.

All three companies extended their condolences to the families of the victims and have committed themselves to offering support during this difficult moment.
