Lagos Govt condemned the increase in exploitative rental rental, promise for tenants

The Lagos state government has sounded a clear warning to landlords and property agents who forced an arbitrary rental increase in residents, swearing that they will no longer tolerate exploitative housing practices that deepen the economic struggle of the tenant in all states.

Speaking during the direct appearance on TVC’s “Your View” on Saturday, a special advisor about housing to the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority (Lasrera), Barakat Odunuga-Bakar, condemning what he described as “opportunistic rental and cannot be justified to increase,” especially in cities that have wrestled with home pressure and economic pressure.

“The government will not continue to fold its arms while lagosiians are used,” Bakare said, reaffirizing the commitment of the Governor of Babajide Sanwo-Olu to protect the population from the practice of real estate predators.

Bakare revealed that the State rental law is currently being reviewed to overcome critical inequalities, including lack of formal regulations around warning costs, recurring sources of quarrels between landlords and tenants. He urged the affected residents to report violations directly to Lasrera, either directly or through digital channels.
