Lagos gyms are addressed to the connection points, they say visitors

The culture of fitness has stormed Nigeria and while fitness centers offer a space for fans to improve their physical health and their well -being, the concerns are however raised on the fact that these centers become hotspots for romantic encounters.

In separate interviews with our Saturday correspondent in Lagos, some gym visitors said that the culture of fitness had evolved into something more complex than a space for exercise.

Mr. Folarin Adekoya, a gym in the State’s Ikeja area, said that some fans seem more focused on socialization and on the shot of photographs for social media than to engage in real training.

β€œSome women are seen wearing revealing and provocative gym dresses, which leads to questioning the reasons behind their choice of clothing.

β€œBut they are not only the clothing that is arousing a sensation. Some gym visitors use these spaces to connect with romantic partners.

“I saw women who wear gym dresses that are quite detector, can be distracted, especially when you are trying to focus on your training,” said Adekoya.

In addition, Jason Onwuka, a normal gym visitor to the state party area, shared his prospects on the evolution balance between resistance, distractions and growing influence of social media.

β€œI prefer to go to the gym to train because I am more motivated there, but I saw people meet in the gym, and it is clear that they are not there to train.

β€œThey will spend hours talking and laughing together, and that’s not exactly what the gym is designed.

β€œAs society becomes more and more individualized, people are looking for new ways to connect with others.

“The gym has become a space in which people can meet new friends, find romantic partners and hear a sense of community,” he said.

ONWUKA observed that while the gym had become increasingly popular, with more social interactions, it depended on individuals to remain concentrated on their goals.

“Whatever you do, there will always be distractions. If you go to the gym with a clear goal to train and focus on your training, it depends on you if you allow the distractions to influence you.”

He also observed that professional women who come to the gym were more concentrated on their training and do not dress provocatively.

“They wear comfortable leggings or tights that are easy to train,” he said.

Recently, an ex -star of Big Brother Naija, Teddy A, has plundered the question of the indecent dress in the gym.

In a video published on his social media page, Teddy A expressed displeasure for the trend, underlining the importance of covering sensitive body parts during training.

“I’m not trying to be insensitive, but we don’t want to start banning girls from the gym because of the indecent dress,” he said.

Teddy’s comments aroused a heated debate on social media, with some who claimed that gyms should apply more rigorous clothing codes, while others have seen it as an excessive reaction.

A manager in a popular fitness center in the state Ajah area, who begged anonymity, told our correspondent that he had had to implement rules on adequate clothes and behaviors in the gym.

β€œWe want to create a welcoming and respectful environment for all our members.

β€œBut despite the efforts of management, the trend does not show signs of slowdown.

“People use the gym as a way to meet new people and have fun, and as long as they do not interrupt someone else’s training, I don’t see the damage,” he said.
