Lagos holds the elections LG 12 July


The independent electoral commission of the State of Lagos (Lasiec) programmed the elections of the local government in the State for 12 July 2025.

The head of the public affairs of Lasiec, Tope Ojo, made this announcement in Lagos on Friday 11 April.

Ojo revealed that the elections for 57 positions of the Prime Minister and 376 seats of the director will take place on 12 July. If necessary, a re-run will occur on July 19th.

The state of Lagos includes 20 local governments and 37 areas of development of the local council (LCDA).

Ojo said that the electoral date was chosen to avoid a leadership void in the councils of the state.

Lasiec’s notice has confirmed that the elections will include 20 local governments, 37 LCDA and 376 departments.

Ojo said that with the current administration of the local government that approaches its end, Lasiec has increased efforts for a regular electoral process.

He said the Commission officially launched the electoral process with the release of the notice of election.

Ojo urged the political parties to visit the Lasiec headquarters to obtain forms of appointment for their candidates.

Ojo observed that a meeting with all registered political parties is scheduled for Tuesday 15 April.

“The electoral guidelines will be published on April 17,” added Ojo.

According to him, campaigns and gatherings will begin on April 18 and will be held on July 9th.

“The appointment forms for” replaced “communications and” only candidates “must be presented between June 18 and June 25,” he said.

The president of Lasiec Justice Bola Okikiolu-Upile (RTD) has ensured a fair and leveled play of play for all political parties.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Commission in holding a free, fair, inclusive and credible election.

Okikiolu-Upile urged the political parties and aspirants to strictly follow the electoral calendar.
