Lagos leadership candidates were disqualified for allegedly receiving double salaries from the government

A candidate in the upcoming local government election in the state of Lagos, Samad Ogunbo, has been disqualified from the race by the Congress of All Progressive (APC), following the accusation that he took a salary from two government parastatal in the state.

Disqualification of Ogunbo who fought for the leadership position of the East Eti-Osa Regional Government, came after a petition that interfered with a double work was submitted against him.

According to the petition, Ogunbo was accused of fraud and violated the Lagos State Civil Service Law by being in a simultaneous work under the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Council (SUBEB) and as a health supervisor in the development area of the Eti-OSA Local Council (LCDA).

This petition specifically stated that Ogunbo was appointed as a supervisor for health at the LCDA ETI-OSA in April 2022, but a letter from the Universal State Basic Board of Lagos also revealed that while Ogunbo was employed by Eti-OSA LCDA, it was also in the payroll of the SUBB.

The findings in Subeb further involved Ogunbo after it was found that he and other individuals received salaries from the LCDA and SUBEB ETI-OSA simultaneously because he was indeed a member of the council staff.

Responding to the petition, a letter signed by the Secretary of the SA Soetan Board of Education, however, claimed not to realize that Ogunbo was also paid by Eti-Osa LCDA.

“The sequel to your letter is dated April 4, 2025, with the reference number Eoelcda/CH/01/Vol.1/099, asking for the work and salary status of Mr. Samad Ogunbo and Miss Rasak Abidemi:

“I want to clarify the facts, based on notes before me, that the two officers currently are the staff of the Eti-Osa Regional Government Education Authority and are on the organization’s salary list.

“In addition, the office was surprised to know that the officer was currently in the nominal payroll of your organization without prior notice to occupy the office of any political appointment.”

“Therefore, this office will be happy to help you further in your investigation if needed. Fighting you about my greetings and considerations.

“It has been determined that the subject has received a salary from the state government as a civil servant and a person who is appointed politics in the Regional Government – a clear violation of the state law which prohibits government employees at the same time holding the appointment at the regional government level,” said Subeb.
