The speaker of the Lagos State Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has opened about his political future, acknowledged that the governor’s offer did not come out of the table after his term of office as a speaker.
Speaking in an interview with Television Continental (TVC) on Thursday, Obasa said that while he held a personal ambition, the direction of his political journey would eventually be determined by his political parties.
“Let me explain. Now after we talk about politics, you must be a member of a political party and if you are a member of a political party, you must believe in party leadership,” Obasa said.
This happened after the new Obasa – this survived a short political upheaval that made him briefly removed from his position as a speaker – a development that increasingly triggered discussions about the next step in politics.
In the previous interview with the same TV station, Obasa had stated that the next goal was to become a senator or governor, who previously served as a member of the council and now the speaker of the Lagos Assembly.
When reminded of the statement, which was made seven years ago, Obasa clarified that it was not intended to be considered a declaration of the company. However, he did not rule out the possibility of pursuing a higher position.

“So, you get to the stage where you cannot determine what will happen next to you. Alone, you can aspire that I want to be this, but if you respect the party and the way the party is managed, you know that party leaders will sit together and decide who will be next. This is all about consultation, involvement with party leaders,” he explained.
When asked firsthand whether he considered the term of four years in the Lagos Assembly, Obasa gave a clear response: “No.”
Although careful not to make a definite statement, Obasa’s statement clearly shows that his view can be determined in a higher role – maybe the Governor’s ship – although he insisted the decision must be in harmony with the will and structure of his party.
