Lagos Short of 30,000 Doctors – Commissioner – TrendyNewsReporters

Professor Akin Abayomi, Lagos State Commissioner for Health, has revealed that the state health system is short of 30,000 doctors.

Abayomi made the statement on Wednesday, July 10, at the ongoing Clean-Air Forum 2024 in Lagos. He said the mass exodus of doctors from the country has put pressure on available doctors. The theme of the event is “Promoting Multi-Regional Collaborations and Partnerships for Clean Air Action in African Cities.”

It was organized by the University of Lagos, AirQo and Makerelere University, Uganda, with the support of the Lagos State Government. Speaking on the theme of the forum, the Commissioner deplored the negative impact of air pollution and its influence on the health sector. He said the state has facilitated inter-agency collaborations to mitigate the crisis. He added that Lagos State is in dire need of doctors to meet the medical needs of the city.
