In an amazing moment in the 14th African Armwrestling championship in Abuja, the Adefunke Aheniforo de Nigeria surprised the continent by defeating the African African champion Marie de Benin Republic in the fiercely answered category of 65 kg of women, a couple that is already called the greatest discomfort of the tournament.

Ageniforo, who only began training in Armwrestling in April 2025, made history by dethroning the dominant Marie, which had appeared in the last African games by closing the double gold (left and the right already the right), becoming the first gold medalist of Benin Republic in the process.
But tonight, the helpless reigned supreme.
Speaking to Sports247 moments after his victory, an emotional Aheniforo said:
“I still can’t believe that this happened. I trained with everything I had, and I knew I was facing a legend. I respect Olaleye deeply, but I came here to demonstrate something: that no dream is too small, and no champion is unbeatable. Nigeria believed in me, and this victory is for all who never gave up.”
The multitude of the Mko Abiola National Stadium exploded when the hand of Ageniforo, a powerful symbol of Nigeria’s increase in sport and unpredictability that has defined Abuja 2025 so far.
Marie, the defending champion, had dominated the African armor scene for years. But on tonight, the power, technique and composure of Ageniforo demonstrated too much, and with it, a new era may have begun in the Navy of African women.
With several games to go and medal rounds are heated, the championship is forming on a battlefield of giants and intrepid challenges.
