Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has reiterated that regional government autonomy and power devolution to sub-national units remain the center of ongoing constitutional amendments.
If, who also arranged the DPR Committee on the constitutional review, made this known in Abuja on Friday when receiving a delegation from the Abiriba Communal Improvement Union throughout the world, led by President General, Yuccee Uwah.
Overcoming delegates, the deputy speaker said the constitutional review was being formed by an urgent need to strengthen the grassroots governance and empower the local council to take over direct development in their community.
“This constitutional review process is not only routine legislative training, this is a sincere effort to bring the government closer to the people,” said Kalu. “Our focus is to increase the devolution of power and real autonomy for local governments. Communities such as Abiriiba will benefit more when they are allowed to determine their own development priorities.”

If it emphasizes that inclusive governance supports the DPR’s legislative agenda, noting that both he and Tajudeen Abbas speakers are committed to reforms that promote fair access to federal resources, especially for rural and historical areas that are less represented.
He urged rural communities throughout the country to proactively identify their most urgent development needs so that the government can respond appropriately. “Strategic empowerment begins with accurate data. When rural communities clearly articulate their needs, we are better positioned to respond with policies that have a real impact,” he said.
Responding to a delegation proposal for the creation of a new regional government from Ohafia in the state of Abia, if it acknowledged the aspirations of the community but suggested that because the constitutional process must be followed. “There are procedures that are placed to create a new local government, and it is important for the Abiriba community to harmonize with these steps to ensure their requests are considered,” he explained.
