The Kaduna State government has scheduled elections in 23 local government areas in the state for October 19.
The chairman of the state Independent National Electoral Commission (KAD-SIECOM), Hajara Mohammed, announced the date at a meeting with political parties and other relevant individuals in Kaduna on Tuesday.
Mohammed said the current board members were sworn in on November 1, 2021, and will end their three-year term on October 31, 2024.
The Supreme Court last week granted full autonomy to the country’s 774 local government areas.
The top court in its ruling ordered the Federal government to withhold revenue allocations to local government areas without elected officials.
