…Calls for collective responsibility and inclusive governance
A leading aspirant in the Ogun State governorship race in 2027, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, has called for unity, courage and collective responsibility among residents of the state as they celebrate this year’s Lisabi Day.
In a goodwill message to the people of Ogun State, Obasanjo said the annual celebration remains a powerful reminder of the enduring values of unity, resilience and communal strength, which she said have long defined the Egba people.
He described the legendary Lisabi Agbongbo Akala as a symbol of resistance, justice and selfless leadership, stressing that his legacy continues to inspire generations to champion equity and promote peaceful coexistence.
According to her, the ideals represented by Lisabi are particularly relevant at a time when Nigeria requires stronger democratic institutions and more inclusive governance structures.
“The spirit of unity must transcend political, ethnic and social boundaries in our collective pursuit of peace, stability and development,” he said.
The former senator urged citizens, traditional leaders and other stakeholders to remain committed to unity of purpose and mutual respect, adding that sustainable progress can only be achieved through collaboration and shared responsibility.
He also charged leaders at all levels to embrace responsibility and selfless service, giving priority to policies that promote youth empowerment, economic growth and improved people’s living standards.
Obasanjo reaffirmed his commitment to the development of Ogun State, expressing optimism that with a shared vision and a renewed sense of purpose, the State can achieve greater socio-economic milestones.
She, however, wished the people of Ogun State a peaceful and memorable celebration of Lisabi Day, urging them to continue to uphold the values of unity and progress for the overall prosperity of the State.
