Mace Club elects Varsity Don, Odunmbaku as 12th president

Members of the Mace Club of Nigeria have elected Mace (Chief) Aliu Ajani Odunmbaku, PhD, as the twelfth president of the club following a hotly contested election held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

PLATFORM TIMES reported that the elections, which attracted members from within and outside the state capital, were conducted by a three-member Mace Election Commission chaired by Mace Soji Sogbolu, with Maces Babatunde Oduwaiye and Temitope Laiuto as members.

Other officials elected alongside Odunmbaku include Mace Toyin Obatosin, Esq., as Vice President; Mace Eng. Jide Adebayo as Secretary General; and Mace Edward Laiuto as director of social services and public relations.

The elections, described by members as peaceful and transparent, reaffirmed the club’s long tradition of democratic leadership and adherence to its constitution.

Odunmbaku, a senior lecturer at the Department of Marketing, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, emerged victorious after what members described as a competitive but orderly electoral process.

Founded on April 1, 1984 in Abeokuta by fifteen young people with an average age of 23 years, the Mace Club of Nigeria was established to promote friendship, leadership development, mutual support and community service.

Over the years, the club grew in influence and reputation, becoming one of the state’s most prominent social organizations.

In his acceptance speech, Odunmbaku expressed gratitude to members for their trust in him and pledged to prioritize unity, transparency and inclusion in the club’s affairs.

He also promised to implement an open-door policy and ensure strict compliance with the club’s constitution and established rules.

The new president also assured members that his administration will focus on strengthening the institutional structure of the club, increasing member participation and promoting the ideals of the organization.

According to him, his leadership will leverage experience in management and administration to consolidate the achievements of previous administrations, while enhancing the club’s reputation.

Club members praised the new leadership, expressing confidence that the executive board will uphold the club’s legacy and guide it towards greater development.

The newly elected executive board was sworn in at the club’s monthly meeting on March 15, 2026, marking the start of their two-year term.
