Man arrested for ritual murder of friend in Osun

Police officers in Osun have arrested a 50-year-old man for allegedly killing his friend for a money ritual in the state.

State police spokesman Yemisi Opalola told reporters during a parade of the criminal suspects at the command headquarters in Osogbo that the suspect slit the victim’s throat after killing him.

He said: “On July 18, at 3:00 pm, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Oke-Odo Division, Osogbo, received information that a Ghanaian man was killed by someone yet to be identified.

“Police detectives immediately swung into action and through intelligence and investigation, Kehinde Ganiyu, a close friend of the deceased was arrested.

“Ganiyu admitted his heinous act by stating that on July 9 at around 9:00 p.m., he came to the victim’s residence carrying a knife and found the victim sleeping because he was sick.

“The suspect admitted that he slaughtered the victim with a kitchen knife and slit his throat.

“He added that he dried her throat for three days before taking her to a bush called Igbo Imese Aiwosi Area located in Oba-Oke Village where he burnt her in a clay pot with some ritual ingredients and then mixed the burnt powder with soap for the money ritual (OSOLE).”

Opalola said the suspect admitted that he carried out the act alone, adding that investigations into the matter were still ongoing.
