Man held after stealing his car

A German man was held on Monday by the police after stealing his car.

The 27-year-old from Mannheim in south-western Germany reported that his BMW was stolen while visiting his family in Romania in April.

Previously he had reported the theft to the police and his insurance company.

Weeks later, the vehicle was purchased by a 38 year old from Dortmund in Germany.

“At the moment, it seems very likely that there are two victims,” said a police spokesman in the western city of Dortmund.

It was said that the 27 -year -old had used localization services to track down the car in Dortmund, but instead of reporting the discovery of the vehicle, instead he driven in the city, opened the car with his key and returned to Mannheim.

Thursday, the oldest man who bought the stolen car reported the theft of his new car.

The police used the data on the position to find that the car was in Mannheim and held the 27 year old the same evening.

The investigators were surprised when the man presented documents to the police confirming that he had purchased the car alone in the United Kingdom several years ago.

Both men were “credibly” able to explain how they ended up in possession of the car, said the spokesperson.

The vehicle was built in 2017 and is worth € 12,000 ($ 13,660). He was seized by the police, who is trying to clarify his property.

The authorities are still looking for the original thieves in Romania, while it is also necessary to establish whether the 27 year old is responsible for the accusation after stealing his car.
