A serious violation of security has shaken an FCMB branch in Nigeria after an unidentified man sneaked into the bank during working hours, he hid inside the ceiling during the night and tried to tamper his computer systems.
The accident, which since then became viral on social media, took place when the suspect entered the bank posing as a normal customer.
Instead of going out at the time of the closure, according to what reported, it blocked inside the bathroom and then accessed the ceiling space, where it was hidden until the nightfall.
The following morning, the bank staff members were alarmed to find the bathroom blocked from the inside.
After opening the door, they discovered the suspicion in the act of interfering with the bank’s computer systems.
Witnesses say that some terminals have started to view unusual messages such as “restart, click OK to accept”, suggesting an attempt to violate or manipulate internal data systems.
The dramatic accident triggered widespread indignation and concern, in particular after the videos emerged, showing that the suspicion was beaten by the security personnel and the police officers.
In viral videos, the man was seen dragged out of the scan ceiling and attacked with wooden axes before the police intervention, which according to the beating.
The reactions of social media were quick and divided.
While some users have focused on apparent safety drops, others have denounced the use of excessive force by the police.
“The police allowed their emotions to climb over their professionalism. So, so sad,” wrote a user.
“That’s not that suspicions should be treated,” he commented on another.
“It could have critical information that should be extracted through a correct interrogation, not the jungle justice”.
Others hypothesized that the man could have helpful within the bank.
“No visitor sneaks into a ceiling and heads straight for sensitive systems. It was helped by someone who knows the layout,” he read a post.
Applications are also raised on the absence of effective surveillance.
“How was a man able to hide during the night without being noticed? Where were the security cameras?” He asked another user.
Critics called the bank for negligence, with many who ask for a review of its security protocols.
“If there had been nocturnal monitoring or a movement of the movement, this would not have happened,” said a tweet.
The accident also rekindled public control of the police conduct in Nigeria.
“Our police don’t even use handcuffs: they go directly to the assault,” wrote a user, reflecting a wider frustration for the police practices.
The authorities have yet to issue an official declaration on the current or conduct of the officers observed in the viral movie.
In the meantime, the public debate continues to grow, not only for the attempt to violate, but also for the treatment of suspicions, the responsibility of police officers and the need for greater security in financial institutions.
While the investigations continue, many Nigerians ask for both justice and the reform, to ensure that these accidents are adequately addressed and prevented in the future.
