Val Obienyem, Media Adviser to Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections, has dispelled rumours that the former Anambra State governor is being detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) at his residence in Anambra State.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Obienyem described the claims as false and baseless. He noted that the rumors first surfaced on Saturday but were quickly debunked. Despite this, the misinformation continues to persist.
Obienyem explained that Obi was not in Anambra State during the alleged incident. “Until Saturday, Mr. Obi was in Rwanda attending an important event. He has since returned to Nigeria and is currently in Edo State where he is actively involved in party and national affairs,” he said.

“There was no DSS operation at his residence, and no arrests were made.”
The statement also rejected claims that Obi’s wife had been arrested, calling it another lie designed to mislead the public and create unnecessary fear among his supporters.
Obienyem urged the public to disregard the false reports and remain vigilant against the spread of misinformation. He assured that any official updates on Mr Obi would be communicated through appropriate channels, stressing that Obi remains focused on his national commitments.
