Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Head of Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, has appealed to the authorities of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) to immediately release his academic transcript, accusing the institution of “playing politics” with academic records.
Speaking through his spokesman, Dr. Robert Ngwu, with a press briefing in Abuja on Monday, the minister stated frustration that the university continued to withstand the transcript apart from what he described as “clear evidence” of his graduation.
NNAJI stated that he obtained a BSC title in the field of microbiology/biochemistry with a second -class award (lower division) in 1985, insisting that the university had no justification to continue to hold its records.
The Minister, who was accused of falsifying the academic certificate he faced to the Federal Government after his appointment in 2023, rejected the accusation as a stain campaign allegedly sponsored by the governor who was sitting who wanted to get it out of his position.
“It is increasingly clear that the entire episode is not about education or integrity – this is about political despair, disguised as an academic investigation. Time, source, fake documents, and narratives that are paid all refer to the coordinated campaign to drag the leading public servants into partisan political mud,” he said.
At the briefing, NNAJI presented the 1985 University graduation brochure, where his name appeared as “Nnaji Uchenna G” in addition to photos and other graduates. He also performed a letter from the clerk, Dr. (Mrs.) Celine Ngozi Nnebledum, confirmed that she was accepted in 1981 and graduated in 1985.
When asked about the difference in names – “Nnaji Uchenna G” and “Geoffrey Uchechukwu Nnaji” – Dr. Ngwu explained that the difference was not important, noting that “Many IGBO names have meaning that can be exchanged and often used interchangeably.”
The minister stated the distrust that after the university confirmed his graduation in an official letter in 2023, then issued another letter in May 2025 which claimed there was no record of graduation. He accused the Deputy Chancellor of “economical with truth” and acted under political influence.

According to him, after knowing the alleged effort by the university to damage his records, he approached the court to hold the management of the institution from “carrying out their evil plot.”
Nnaji regretted that although there was a court order that forced Unn to release its transcript, the university continued to oppose the order.
“The University of Nigeria NSUKKA must uphold Moto proud to restore human dignity. He must regain his integrity by distance himself from political manipulation and reaffirm the authenticity of official records of his own. This is not about a record of one person – this is about protecting the truth that preserves the strangeness, and ensuring that there is no university in Nigeria.
He urged the university to comply with court orders, emphasizing that “Delayed justice is rejected justice,” and calls for the end of what he calls “cyberbullying and motivation of media trials” against him.
