Speaking at the degree ceremony, the head of the operations (army), the major general Uwem Bassey has accused the troops on professionalism and to be a peace ambassadors, underlining that the ceremony is not only a request for celebration, but a time to reflect on the responsibilities found in front of them. The main general Bassey urged the troops to embody the values ​​of courage, dedication and integrity for which they were trained. He added that as a Nigerian contingent, they are symbols of peace not only in Gambia but in Africa as continent.

The head of the operations, which was represented by the deputy head of the operations (army), the main general Ishaya Maina, said that the Nigerian contingents continued to carry out critical roles in the Ecowas mission, which led to relative political and social stability in Gambia. Therefore, he urged the Nigerian contingent 10 to ensure that the successes obtained by their predecessors are supported and improved when they are distributed.

The head of the operations also warned the troops to avoid any conduct that does not comply with the professional standards requested from the Peacekeeper, adding that the Nigerian army (NA) would not have covered acts of indiscipline and bad conduct by the staff. “I must underline the importance of maintaining the highest standards of conduct and discipline. An area that requires attention is the question of exploitation and sexual abuse. Na will not forgive any act that brings dishonor into the mission or in our dear country. He underlined.

Previously, during his welcome speech, the commander Mlailpkc, the main general Ademola Adedoja, said that the degree troops gathered in the center on 17 and 18 May 2025 for pre-distribution training. The troops were taken through a complete medical evaluation to evaluate their health, physical and mental suitability before the start of training. The commander revealed that being an unconcended center for pre-destribution training, the training curriculum used for training was designed in accordance with the United Nations predeplementation training manuals (CPTM).

The major general Adedoja, said that the training was tailor -made to be specific to the mission, expressing optimism on the fact that the troops of the Nigerian contingent 10 will deliver the mandate and, like their counterparts in other peace maintenance operations, will make Nigeria proud. He highlighted some of the areas on which troops were perforated to include counter-Miglioral explosive devices, driver air vehicles, employment of the basic field, convoys exercises and VIP protection, GPS, medical evacuation among others.

The commander while praised the troops for their discipline during training, wished them a successful tour in Gambia. He also praised the facilitators and the training team of the Center for the commitment and zeal to perform their functions. Even more important, he thanked the head of the army staff (Coas), the lieutenant general Olufemi Oluyede for providing all the necessary requirements for the conduct of training in the center.

The event was well attended by the officers of the main staff of the headquarters of defense and army, as well as the leaders of military plants and the commanders of the training institutions and the leaders of other security agencies within the state of Kaduna.
