Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) have rescued 40 people kidnapped by Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State.

This was revealed by the MNJTF spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, in a statement on Tuesday in N’Djamena.

He said the hostages consisting of eight men, eight women and 24 children were rescued by troops operating under Sector 3 in Monguno.

The statement read: “Troops during intensive clearance operations in Kukawa and Poros Baga Local Government Areas, intercepted a group of Boko Haram terrorists transporting a large number of hostages.

“The terrorists fled after encountering soldiers, leaving behind the hostages, who were immediately rescued. Among the people rescued included 8 men, 8 women, and 24 children.

“Initial investigations indicate that the hostages were transported from the Boko Haram Dogon enclave of Chikwu, which is increasingly untenable due to the pressure of intense MNJTF operational activities.

“Troops are currently pursuing the fleeing terrorists and may be holding additional hostages.”
