Murphy Innovations wows Abeokuta with its “timeless elegance” at the Maiden Fashion Showcase

The ancient city of Abeokuta, Ogun State, came alive with glamour, culture and creativity as Murphy Innovations staged its inaugural fashion show, Timeless Elegance, marking a bold entry into Nigeria’s competitive fashion and entertainment landscape.

The event, held in collaboration with Ankara Festival United Kingdom, attracted fashion enthusiasts, industry stakeholders and dignitaries, all delighted by a rich display of style, craftsmanship and cultural expression.

Speaking at the event, Murphy Innovations CEO, Moroof Popoola, described the presentation as the realization of a long-term vision to build a globally recognized fashion brand rooted in Nigerian heritage.

Popoola said the journey began over two decades ago with the dream of creating a brand that caters to people with refined tastes in fashion, while projecting Nigerian creativity to the world.

“About 25 years ago, I envisioned a brand that would not only serve our immediate community, but also extend across Nigeria and the diaspora. Today, that vision has come to life,” he said.

He explained that the brand has since evolved into a multifaceted enterprise, including the Murphy Innovations Fashion and Training Institute, which has trained hundreds of young creatives who are now making their mark in the fashion industry.

The highlight of the evening was the runway show, where models strutted their stuff in an array of designs featuring high-quality tailoring, luxurious fabrics and intricate detailing, reflecting the show’s theme of timeless elegance.

The infusion of traditional Ankara elements with contemporary styles underlined the brand’s commitment to blending culture with modern fashion, earning applause from guests.

Popoola highlighted that beyond aesthetics, the initiative was conceived as a platform for youth empowerment and skill development, particularly in Ogun State and across Nigeria.

He also highlighted the importance of partnerships in the advancement of the fashion industry, noting that the collaboration with Ankara Festival UK has significantly enriched the quality and reach of the event.

“We are building more than a fashion brand; we are creating a movement that empowers youth and showcases the excellence Nigeria is known for. We welcome further collaborations from individuals, corporate organizations and government institutions,” he added.

The Event Chairman and Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, commended Popoola for bringing a high-class fashion event to Abeokuta, describing it as a great boost for the city’s creative industry.

Agboke noted that the initiative would help curb the trend of residents traveling to Lagos for premium fashion services, while encouraging the development of local talent.

“You have demonstrated that excellence can thrive here in Abeokuta. Maintain professionalism and ensure integrity remains at the heart of your business,” he advised.

In a heartfelt thank you, Rizqah Popoola and Haliah Popoola, daughters of the founder, described the event as an extraordinary celebration of creativity, culture and emerging talent.

They expressed gratitude to key supporters and partners such as Otunba Taofeek Shokaya, Olusegun Emmanuel of Houseofemmanuels, Dapo Oguntola, Barrister Mutiu Agboke and Alhaji Kabiru Fatgbems for their contribution to the success of the inaugural edition.

Organizers said the Murphy Innovations Fashion Show will become an annual event, promising bigger, more impactful editions aimed at expanding opportunities for young designers and creatives.

With its successful debut, Timeless Elegance not only positioned Murphy Innovations as a growing force in the Nigerian fashion scene, but also solidified Abeokuta’s growing reputation as a center of creative expression and cultural innovation.
