Nanpf warns Nff against the unofficial recognition of Pfan as representatives of the players

The leadership of the National Association of Nigeria Professional Footders (Nanpf) has raised concerns about a recent visit by the officials of the Association of Professional Footballers of Nigeria (PFAN) at the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), warning the Government Body of Football not to have granted unofficial recognition to PFAN as a representative body for Nigerian players.

In an official letter addressed to the president of the NFF and signed by the President of the Board of Directors Nanpf and ex-international, Sunday Abe-Il captain of the Sunshine Stars Football Club, Akure-The Union expressed his discomfort for the Solidarity Solidarity show with the Super Eagles during the current qualifications for the USA, Canada and Mexico 2026.

While recognizing the importance of supporting the national team, Nanpf stressed that the gesture could be part of an effort of Pfan to seek informal recognition as the players’ union. The letter stressed that the Nanpf remains the only union of the players officially affiliated to the NFF, with over two decades of constant participation in the congress and activities of the NFF.

“We recommend the NFF to pay attention and check its registers to confirm the union that has been a legitimate stakeholder for years,” reads the note. “The recognition should not be extended without adequate advice, especially when it involves the well -being and representation of the players.”

The Nanpf leadership urged the Federation to commit itself only to the bodies that have a demonstrable history to support the rights and well -being of the players, strengthening its commitment to negotiate on behalf of the players, resolve disputes, offer education and training programs and safeguard the careers of Nigerian footballers.

Concluding the letter, Nanpf extended the best wishes to the NFF and Super Eagles, expressing hope for the continuous success in the qualifications being under the World Cup.

The communication underlines a growing tension within Nigerian football for the representation of the interests of the players and the potential fragmentation of the union leadership.
