Nard cries the doctor of the rivers, probes the circumstances of his death

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (Nard) expressed pain for the sudden death of Dr. Oluwafemi Rotifa, a doctor residing at the State State University Teaching Hospital (RSuth) and announced the beginning of an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

In a declaration jointly signed by its president, Dr. Osundara Tope, and the general secretary, dr. Odunbaku Kazeem Oluwasola, the association described the accident as a “big blow” for the medical community and the nation in general.

Nard said that while some relationships had connected the death of the doctor to alleged prolonged working hours, he would not have rushed to the conclusions until an in -depth process for the search for the facts was completed.

“We are working on with his family, colleagues, hospital management and interested parties to guarantee a transparent investigation. Our members and leadership of Ard RSuth, in the company of the NMA and the hospital direction of Rivers, have already visited the family”, reads the note.

The association stressed that the well -being and safety of doctors remained non -negotiable, warning that many of its members throughout the country were already fighting serious health complications due to excessive work programs.

He recalled that several appeals for an improvement in working conditions had been ignored by the authorities, adding that the last tragedy must serve as a bell for urgent reforms in the health sector.

Nard urged the government to strengthen policies that guarantee human work environments for doctors, observing that these measures would not only protect medical professionals but also improve assistance to patients.

“The memory of our deceased colleague must act as an invitation to the action to prevent further avoidable losses within our ranks,” added the declaration.

The death of Dr. Rotifa has aroused new concerns about the workload and the well -being of doctors in Nigeria, in particular in public hospitals in which resident doctors often support most of the patient care in tiring conditions.
