On Technology Transfer (Pictt) has launched the second phase of the Delta-2 program, the second request for proposals, which will focus on the marketing of all research and development results in different sectors of the economy.

The Delta-2 project is a bilateral collaboration by the Federal Government of Nigeria through Naseni-Pictt and the Czech Republic through the technological agency of the Czech Republic (TA CR) which aimed at submissions by innovators, Delta-2 programs. 2022, following which the subsidies were provided by Nasens to the winners of the projects approved to expand their companies.

In his welcome speech, the president, the presidential implementation committee for the transfer of technology (Pictt), dr. Dahiru Mohammed, said that the Delta-2 project has become a great factor of innovation, economic growth and sustainable development in Nigeria, stating that it is aimed at accelerating Nigeria’s technological growth through international collaboration.

“The Delta-2 program is a catalyst for the creation of jobs, greater productivity and the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It will help to reduce dependence on imports by increasing the global competitiveness of Nigeria at the same time,” he said.

He highlighted the results of the previous invitation to proposals launched in May 2022, which attracted 285 submissions by Nigerian researchers and companies, of which 25 projects were financed in 2023, which led to innovative products and services throughout agriculture, advanced manufacturing and other strategic sectors that have already created jobs, built skills and transfer of advanced technology.

In his key speech, the executive vice-president/CEO of Naseni, Khalil Soleiman Halilu, observed that Delta-2 had the potential to be a catalyst for the Nigeria innovation ecosystem, adding that the decision is already producing results. “Today we can indicate the stories of 12 beneficiaries of the first call, Nigerians who are working on several projects throughout our country.

“From renewable energy solutions to advanced materials, from agricultural technologies to production innovations, these projects testify to the power of research applied to solve real problems, create jobs and provide products and services that meet the needs of our people”, he observed.

Halilu observed that what makes Delta 2 unique is his attention to the results. “It is not a research for the good of research, it is a research with the purpose and the market in mind. It is a research that leads to new knowledge, new skills and new products. It is the research that fills the gap between the laboratory and the market, between ideas and impact.

“It is also a bridge between the nations – between Czech companies and Nigerian innovators, between European competence and African creativity. Together, we are building partnerships that accelerate progress, favor mutual respect and the possibilities in concomitant for both of our countries,” he underlined.

The head of Naseni has also said that the Delta-2 projects supported by Nasens will respond not only to the current needs of the company, but will also anticipate tomorrow’s challenges, from climate change to digital transformation. Therefore, he invited researchers, innovators and entrepreneurs to Nigeria to use the opportunity once again.

In his observations, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, the Uche heads Geoffrey Nnaji, said that “the theme is clear, is to generate research results that will lead to new products, new processes, apply results that directly improve the competitiveness of Nigeria, create jobs and open new markets at home and abroad”.

He observed that the priority areas on Delta-2 projects range from agriculture and food technology, renewable energy, mining and industrial development, health and health technologies, advanced production, digital mobility, climatic technology and defense innovations that are strongly aligned with the renewed agenda of the hope of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“I would like to emphasize, this is not a research for shelves. This is the research for the impact. Each funded project must provide tangible, scalable and commercially practicable results that respond to the real challenges and opportunities of Nigeria”. He invited Nigerian researchers, companies and innovators to seize this opportunity to build a major Nigeria through innovation and the transfer of technology.

In his message of goodwill, the president/CEO, Nigerians of the Diaspora Commission (Nidcom), dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa said that the initiative reflects the visionary leadership of the administration of President Tinubu in encouraging new ideas and innovations that can advance the country. “This is another day of success and progress for Nigeria. It shows how much we have achieved in technology and innovation as a nation,” he observed.

He praised the leadership of Nasens under Halilu for having advanced the scientific, innovation and technological agenda of Nigeria, while appealing for a similar project to extend to the Nigerians in the diaspora.

Speaking also, the President’s Special Assistant for Commerce, Investments and Industry, John Ugochukwu Uwajumogu praised Naseni and Pictt for having aligned their efforts with the Economic Agenda from 1 trillion of Dollars of President Tinubu, underlining that the technology transfer is essential to achieve industrialization. “We must strengthen our industrial ability to attract both global and national investments and to compete heavily on the global phase,” he added.
