Senate President Godswill Akpabio has rejected the call from the civil society organization and critic who urged him to resign, swear not to surrender to what he described as an unfounded and unfair accusation.
Speaking on Thursday during the plenary session, Akpabio spoke to the senate room in responding to a statement by the leader of the Senate Opeyemi Bamidle (APC – Ekiti Central), who had encouraged parliamentary members to remain focused on their legislative responsibilities despite experiencing political disorders.
“Who said I would retreat?” Akpabio asked, looking firm in the tone. “I am not one of the people who will resign from fake accusations.”

The Senate president was recently under public supervision after allegations of sexual harassment made by Senator deferred by Natasha Akpoti-Uuduaghan, as well as revived claims that connect it with violations of elections during the 2019 general election.
Akpabio, however, equalized the situation with the fate of black Americans who were imprisoned wrongly, stated that history was full of examples of people who were cursed before the truth was revealed.
“There are black people in America who went to prison for fake accusations. Some were there for 25 years,” he said. “When it was finally proven that the accusation was wrong, they said, ‘Oh well … he wasn’t that bad.’ It’s not justice. “
He thanked Senator Bamidle for his supporters and urged his colleagues to fight external pressure that could frustrate the work of the Senate.
