Natasha, Ezekwesili Exchange Note after “You are a fool”, verbal meeting in the Senate – Thage

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Auduaghan and the former Minister of Education, Obey Ezekwesili have exchanges of warm notes on the verbal exchange between the former minister and the deputy head of the whip of the Senate, the Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi during an audition of the Senate on Tuesday. She apologized to the former minister on her X Handle, praising her for supporting women’s rights.

The assault took place at the Senate Committee for ethics, the privileges and public petitions that listened to a new petition presented by Akpoti-Auduaghan for which his consultant, ABIOLA Akioyode-Folabi together with EzekWesili and the signing leader of the Kogi Central Senatorial district, has made appearances.

The stage for the clash was set when the signatory asked the president of the Senate Committee, Neda IMASUEN to resign, giving the controversial way that had managed the accusation of sexual harassment and office abuses collected by Akpoti-Usduaghan against the president of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio. The times broke out when some senators found that offensive request.

Ezekwesili’s request to be authorized to speak as a witness of the question further angry the senators with Nwaebonyi who defines it as an “insult to motherhood, you are a fool, because you are talking to me like this”. Ezekwesili replied by calling him a “hooligan”

The meeting was to be canceled.

Senator IMASUEN updated the hearing indefinitely following observations that both Akpabio’s wife and Akpoti-Auduaghan have a case in court and the absence of Kogi’s legislator to defend his accusations.

By contacting journalists after the hearing, Ezekwesili described the Senate’s approach as a serious violation of the Nigerian Constitution and the legal framework.

He criticized the insistence of the committee on the priority of the Senate rules on the constitutional provisions, in particular in cases involving disciplinary actions and petitions.

“The Nigerian Senate continues to say to the citizens who are subject to the rules of the Senate, even when these rules violate the Constitution. This is unacceptable in a democracy,” said Ezekwesili.

He also referred to the suspension of Senator Akpoti-Auduaghan, claiming that he was carried out without due regard to the constitutional provisions.

“The Senate has placed its rules above the laws of the earth. Now, with this signatory, they did the same thing, using procedural gaps to avoid dealing with critical issues,” he said.

He added: “If a signatory says that they do not believe that the Senate Committee will give them a fair audition due to a clear prejudice, it is only that an independent body examines the question”.

He also warned that the actions of the Senate could constitute a dangerous precedent in which the internal rules prevail over the Constitution.

“The Senate must respect the Constitution. Otherwise, we risk transforming our democracy into a system in which powerful individuals manipulate the processes to silence the opposition and suppress justice,” he said.

Taking his handle X, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Auduaghan apologized with the former minister:

“Dr. @Obyezeks, lady, I apologize for the insults. Know that you brought them for me … for us … as a mother and as a leader. Know that you are a true icon of integrity, courage and visionary leadership. Your unshakable commitment, your jump, your and -e -e -e -aging.

Ezekwesili replied: very kind words, dear Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan @natashaakpoti! 🫂

Yet for me, a stream of insults from any source is only a small price to pay in our determination to see a Nigerian who becomes.

Our daughters and grandchildren must never inherit battles and wars that we should have been fighting and winning for them.

An unjust society that silences women and vulnerable people will never become.

We all have to refuse it for Nigeria.

We are standing! ✍🏾
