It is interesting to note that Amuka-Pemu, which President Tinubu described as “a legendary journalist and publisher who remained faithful to his life for life”, could not have had a more suitable 90th birthday gift compared to the conferment of the commander of the Niger order (with) on him. Amuka-Pemu, founder of the Vanguard newspaper, turns 90 on Friday 13 June.
Like Amuka-Pemu; Also onanuga, founder of Therews magazine and Babarinsa, co-founder of Tell Magazine, was conferred with the title. Olorunyomi, Ajibade, Igiebor and Kehinde obtained the officer of the order of the Niger, Oon, title.
On the contrary, Kaltho, who obtained a posthumous Oon, was one of the journalists who paid the supreme price during the despotic regime of the deceased general Sani Abacha.
