National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) officers have intercepted shipments of cocaine and pharmaceutical opioids concealed in feminine hygiene products and hair cream containers, bound for the United Kingdom, Ireland and Cyprus at three courier companies in Lagos State.

In one of the logistics companies, on Tuesday 3 September 2024, NDLEA officers from the Directorate of General Operations and Investigations (DOGI) recovered 30 packages of cocaine weighing 1.1 kilograms hidden in hair cream containers during an inspection of cargo bound for Ireland.

NDLEA Director of Media and Outreach, Femi Babafemi, made the announcement in a statement on Sunday, September 8.

Babafemi said that on Friday 6 September another shipment of 24 packages of cocaine weighing 862 grams was intercepted at the same company, also hidden in hair cream containers destined for delivery to the UK.

He reported that on Tuesday, September 3, NDLEA officers seized from another courier firm in Lagos 525 tramadol 225mg pills and ecstasy (MDMA) hidden in sanitary pads destined for Cyprus.

The NDLEA spokesperson said that a consignment of 200 vials of injectable promethazine and injectable pentazocine hidden in food products and herbs, bound for London, UK, was also seized by drug enforcement officers on Wednesday, September 4.

Babafemi revealed that on Friday, September 6, agents of the anti-drug agency intercepted another consignment of 225 mg tramadol hidden in granulated melon coming from Cameroon and headed to South Africa.

Babafemi added that 550,000 tramadol pills were also intercepted at Port Harcourt International Airport, Rivers State capital, on Monday, September 2, during a joint check of a consignment from Delhi, India, with Nigerian Customs officials.

He said a suspect had been arrested in connection with the kidnapping.

Commending the anti-drug officers for the seizures, NDLEA Chairman/CEO, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd), noted that their operational successes and those of their compatriots across the country were highly appreciated.
