Ndlea Smash Networks in Edo, Arrest 46, seized nearly 40,000 kg of narcotics in July

Edo State Command from the Narcotics Law Enforcement Agency (Ndlea) has announced the arrest of 46 suspects and confiscation of 39,983,294 kilograms of various kinds of drugs during the operation in July.

The state commander of the state Mitchell ofoyeju revealed this in Benin on Monday while presenting a report on the agency’s monthly performance. He said the operation, guided by credible intelligence, targeted the main drug point in all states, including famous black dots along the Ihama road in Benin City.

“The July results reflect on a sustainable commitment to dismantle drug trafficking operations in the state. We arrested 46 drug suspects, consisting of 38 men and 8 women,” Ofoyju said.

He revealed that Ndlea destroyed seven marijuana farms – completing 15.85 hectares – located in the Oke forest, Uhunmwonde, and Ewere Forest, Uzebba, Western Regional Government.

“Overall, we succeeded in taking 39,983,294 kg of narcotics drugs from illegal circulation,” he said, breaking up the transport as 39,977,644 kg of cannabis, 5,5753 kg of psychotropic substances, 0.26 g methamphetamine, and 0.0598 g from.

Ofoyju noted that the order also intensified community involvement through efforts to reduce drug demand. “As many as 32 people with drug use problems receive short intervention counseling, while 11 others are currently undergoing rehabilitation at the command facility. Among those who were arrested, he said, were the alleged Baron drugs and marijuana growers who had been included in the list that was sought by the agency since 2023. The 49 -year -old suspect from Owan West Lga was arrested in one of the cannabis farms, of which 11 pockets of processed marijuana weighing 115 kg were found.

Another suspect from Etsako West was arrested along the Uwarue Road, Auchi, with 22 packets of strong marijuana-strain-strain removed in a black bag filled with Garri, weighing 10.265 kg.

In a separate operation, a 48-year-old man from Akoko Edo was intercepted on Jalan Igara-Auchi with five pockets of marijuana weighing 36 kg, hidden in a plastic black sack.

Reaffirming Ndlea’s determination to paralyze drug syndicates in the state, ofoyeju stated: “We will not succumb until the drug trading network is destroyed and our community is free from their grip.”
