The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has drawn heavy criticism from social media users after he claimed that Nigeria’s problems are spiritual in nature.
The attack followed the emergence of a video in which the cleric said Nigeria’s ongoing socio-economic challenges should not be blamed on the country’s political leaders alone as they were working to find solutions.
However, he believes that only divine intervention can truly save Nigeria from its current predicament.
Adeboye, who spoke during a visit to Kaduna state governor Uba Sani, said:
“I am happy to be back here. I was here about two years ago with the former governor. At that time, I came to pray for some of my members who were kidnapped and miraculously rescued. I came to encourage their families to let them know that everything will be okay.
“I have come again this time because it has become increasingly clear to us that the problems facing our nation are more than just political. Our problems will require many spiritual solutions.

“We are blessed as a country. We are blessed with very intelligent people. We are blessed with all kinds of resources, but we still have so many problems.
“It’s not that the people in authority aren’t trying their best. They’re doing the best they can. And then we know that when you have a problem that’s beyond human ability to solve, you cry out to the Almighty. The reason we cry out to Him is because He has the power to solve all problems.
“So, we have been trying in our own way to support the efforts of all governments and state-owned enterprises to appeal to the Almighty to come to our aid because we need help. We need help and we need it urgently,” Adeboye said.
However, the man of God’s comments did not go down well with many Nigerians who criticized him as a hypocrite.
While some have criticized him for not being as vocal in condemning the current government as he used to be when Goodluck Jonathan was in power, others claim he has been compromised.
