The coordinator of the National Climate adaptation project of Nigeria-erosion and Watershed Project (NewMap-EIB), Engr. Ayuba Yalaks made a courtesy visit to the National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NGGW) to deepen the collaboration in the management of hydrographic basins, fight the degradation of the soil and promote environmental sustainability.

During the visit, Engr. Yalaks congratulated the general manager of Nggw, Alhaji Saleh Abubakar, MFR, for the successful hosting of the tenth anniversary of The Great Green Wall, recently observed in Duta, in the state of Jigawa. He described the anniversary as “a strong impact and a strong testimony of the role of leadership of the agency in environmental restoration”.
He praised the DG and the agency for starting a five-year strategic plan to plant palm trees (Dabino) through the corridor of the shelter belt of the Sahel-a project designed to improve the means of subsistence, strengthen food safety, biodiversity, the ecosystem, the restoration of ecosystems, green food and guaranteeing long-term food safety term.
He also escaped the fact that “the great green wall is not only a wall of trees through Sahel, but a wall of hope, security, ecological job opportunities, economic growth and peace”.
Highlighting the mandate of NewMap-Eib, Engr. Yalaks observed that the project-childhood project by the European investment bank with a duration of five years-is dedicated to the adaptation of climate change, the control of erosion and the management of floods and the management of the watershed. He stressed that the NGGW remains a key partner to advance the vision of Nigeria for a green environment, the green works and a green economy in line with Mr. President has renewed the initiatives of hope for an improved green environment and better for the improvement of the Nigerian people.

“As a green project, we provide bioengineering solutions to protect and support the civil engineering infrastructures that we have implemented. In his response, the general manager, Nggw, Alhaji Saleh Abubakar, MFR appreciated the visit and promised a continuous collaboration with NewMap-Eib. Both parties reiterated their vision and commitment shared in facing the challenges of the watershed, restoring the degraded lands and construction of a sustainable and resilient environment for the benefit of the Nigerians through the Sahel.
The NPC was accompanied during the visit by all the FPMU specialist staff and present at the DG, NGGW was a top management staff of the agency.
