The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has approved the list of players who will represent the Nigeria senior national team against the Republic of Benin and Rwanda respectively in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Eguavoen will take charge of the team on an interim basis after failing to secure a substantial coach to replace Finidi George, who stepped down two months ago following a poor showing in World Cup qualifying.
Talks with Janne Andersson suffered a setback, while Hervé Renard never considered taking charge of the team despite assurances from his representative to the NFF following his resignation as coach of the French women’s team.
The NFF has no choice but to settle with Eguavoen, who is the head of the football club’s technical department to process both games billed for September 7 and 10 respectively.
Their final list of 25 players drawn from the 35 players who received a provisional invitation letter will be made public next week after the Ibrahim Musa Gusau-led board approved the list.
