The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) formally apologized with the referees Ignatius Nwankwo and Chinonso Ezeh following an incorrect identification in a dispute on the offside during a recent game.
In an internal note of May 5, 2025, the NFF referees development committee recognized that Nwankwo and Ezeh were erroneously appointed in a previous communication as regards an evident offside goal allowed during the AA FC vs Ozalla FC appointment. The actual officials responsible were subsequently confirmed as Obayi Ernest and Bonaventure Ibekwe.

The reminder, signed by Mohammed Ameenu, secretary of the referee’s development committee, states in part:
> “I write with all the sense of responsibility and on behalf of the Committee’s development committee, to apologize to you for the confusion and trauma that this decision may have caused you. This is very regret.”
The apologies were also released to the president of the NFF, the Secretary General and the Chief Operating Officer of the Nationwide League One (NLO), strengthening the commitment of the Federation for responsibility.
The referee body underlined its dedication to equity and professional integrity and correction should restore the reputation of the officially implicated officials.
