NFF in talks with Cameroon coach to take over as new Super Eagles coach

Cameroon senior national team coach Marc Brys is interested in taking over as the new coach of the Nigerian senior team. OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Nigeria is searching for a coach for the Nigerian senior team following the resignation of Finidi George as coach. Finidi stepped down after the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) confirmed in a statement that it will appoint an expatriate coach following his lackluster performance in the recently concluded World Cup qualifiers.

The Super Eagles held South Africa to a 1-1 draw before losing 1-2 to Benin Republic. A result that drops them to fifth place in their group, four points behind the leader Rwanda. In reaction, the NFF announced that it will hire a coach as part of the restructuring of the technical team.

By all indications, the chosen one is current Cameroon coach Brys, who has endured a tumultuous relationship with the president of the Cameroon Federation, Samuel Eto’o, since his appointment.

Despite that, he led the team to a 4-1 victory over Central African Republic and they closed the qualifiers with a 1-1 draw against Angola to top their group with 8 points.

An NFF source confirmed that talks are taking place with the coach, Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad reported. “Yes, he is among the candidates for the position, but I will not say that he is the favorite. In the coming days the appropriate course will be known,” he stated.
