NFF seeks the truth about Lawal’s death

The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has continued the search for clarity about the tragic death of former Nigeria U-20 player, Abubakar Lawal, in Uganda on Monday.

The NFF Secretary General, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, reiterated on Friday that the country’s soccer governorate body has kept its feet in the accelerator with respect to the matter, and will not yield until the truth is presented in the cause of the player’s death.

Lawal died Monday morning, and the initial reports said he died in a motorcycle accident and later in a car accident. Hours later, the Uganda Police declared that he actually died after falling from the third floor of a hotel at the voicemail shopping center in Bwebajja. It was said that he had been in the mall to visit a friend, Lady Naima Omary, who moved to the hotel a month earlier.

Since then, the Uganda Police has arrested Omary.

“We are not giving in the search for truth. The federal government of Nigeria has expressed the determination to dig up the truth, and we ourselves have reached our counterparts in the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) to help us discover the truth.

“The circumstances surrounding the player’s death are still full of mystery, but we are committed to doing the little we can to shed light on him and help the federal government in his search for truth.”

Hours after the unfortunate incident on Monday, Sanusi called his opposite number in FUFA, Edgar Watson Suubi, to request urgent assistance to reach the root of the matter.

Suubi replied that “it is a sad situation. I have also received divergent reports about the incident, but I have delegated someone to find out what happened, and then we can send a copy of the police report, the doctor or any authority that is in a position to give us a satisfactory response. “

The NFF followed the Sanusi telephone conversation with a formal letter, in which it revealed that “there has been so much exit in our country with respect to the mystery of your death, and I have decided to communicate with you, like colleague, to help shed light on how the player really came to an end.

“It is a very sad situation for us in Nigeria football and for his family, and it is important to obtain these events to allow some closure in his tragic death. We would also like to know what arrangements are being made to recover their remains to your family in Nigeria. “

Lawal was a member of the Nigeria team at the FIFA U20 World Cup finals in New Zealand 10 years ago, and was a key player for the FC of the Uganda FC Elite Division Club before his disappearance.
