In an official letter from the NFF referees development unit, the referees Ignatius Nwanekwu and Chinquis Ezeh were found for making critical decisions that were not in line with the laws of the game. According to the NFF, their actions negatively influenced the result of the game and brought the game in the absence.
The letter, signed by Mohammed Amenu, president of the NFF referees committee, said:
“Such a demonstration of impunity has not only negatively influenced the result of the game, but equally distorted the game.”
As a result, the referees were suspended indefinitely by the officiant NLO matches, with an immediate effect.
The decision was copied to the President and the Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Federation, as well as to the Chief Operating Officer of the NLO, strengthening the seriousness of the matter.
This move underlines the federation’s commitment to maintain the integrity and credibility of the football workshop at all levels of the game in Nigeria.
