The newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nigerian Exchange Group, Mr. Jude Chiemeka, has been tasked with the daunting task of driving the NGX towards long-term success.
This follows his appointment as substantive CEO of the exchange’s operating subsidiary.
Commenting on the appointment following the approval of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Group Chairman, NGX Group, Alhaji (Dr) Umaru Kwairanga, stated that the strategic appointment is in line with the groupβs succession plan and strengthens the synergies that continue to be fostered across the groupβs operations.
βMr. Chiemekaβs extensive experience and proven leadership qualities are invaluable assets that will drive NGX towards long-term success.
Under his leadership, I am confident that NGX will play a more important role in contributing to the sustainable growth of the Nigerian and African economies,β he said.
Commenting on the appointment, Mr. Ahonsi Unuigbe, Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Limited, said the NGX Board is pleased to confirm the appointment of Mr. Chiemeka as CEO of The Exchange.
“We hope and expect that it will spur growth and innovation, enhance our operational perspective, democratize investment in the capital market, and open up opportunities for investors,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Temi Popoola, GMD/CEO, NGX Group stated that he is delighted to see Mr. Chiemeka take over as CEO of NGX.

Chiemeka’s appointment is effective July 1, 2024.
Since January 1, 2024, Mr. Chiemeka has served as Acting CEO of NGX, succeeding Mr. Temi Popoola, who moves to the role of Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NGX Group.
According to a statement signed by Clifford Akpolo, Group Head of Communications and Partnerships, Mr. Chiemeka brings nearly three decades of experience in African securities trading and asset management to his new role.
His career includes serving as Executive Director of Capital Markets at NGX and MD/CEO at United Capital Securities Limited.
He also worked at investment banking firms in Nigeria such as Chapel Hill Denham Securities and Rencap Securities (Nigeria).
A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers, Mr. Chiemeka is an alumnus of the University of Lagos, Lagos Business School and the University of Oxford, UK.
