Nigeria, Angola’s signature agreements on the illegal control of drugs, cultural exchange and economic cooperation

Luanda (basic reporter) The Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Republic of Angola have signed two agreements consisting of cooperation on the fight against illegal production, production and trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychological substances and their precursors, as well as on cultural cooperation and exchange.

The event took place at the fifth just estate session of the Nigeria-Angola bilateral economic economic commission in Luanda, the capital of Angola, from 9 to 12 September 2025. The joint commission was revived after 24 years.

The Nigerian government has also facilitated a historical twinning agreement on the socio-economic and cultural development between Bayelsa State and Namibe, a province of Angola.

Another economic cooperation agreement has also oscillated between the state of Nasarawa and the Angolan province of Bengo.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, the white ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who led the Nigerian delegation, signed on behalf of the Federal Government and the Angolan Secretary of State for international cooperation, Amb. Domingos Lopes, signed for his country.

Governor Douye Diri of the State of Bayelsa and his counterpart of the province of Namibe, dr. Archer Mangueira, have signed their twinning cities respectively.

Amb. Odumegwu-Ojukwu and his Angolan counterpart, Amb. Lopes praised both countries for reviving the joint commission.

A declaration by Dr. Magnus Eze, a special assistant on communication and new media to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, said that Odumegwu-Ojukwu noticed the meaning of the joint commission while recalled the historical ties between Nigeria and Angola, dating back to 1975 when Angola became independent.

He said: “Our meeting in the last three days has not only been to reflect on the state of our bilateral relationships, but also to identify new areas of cooperation in line with our collective desire to improve the partnership for a better future. We deserve to achieve sustainable economic growth, the creation of jobs, the contact of people to people and the reduction of poverty for our populations.

“The joint commission between our two countries therefore provides a good picture to develop strategies in order to strengthen and expand our bilateral relations. “We also presented and signed an agreement on creative economy, arts and culture to promote cultural exchange programs in cinematographic and musical co -production, festivals, tourist agreements, etc.

“We proposed a more vibrant marine tourism and an international cruise of boats between the Nigerian coasts and corners, especially during Detty’s December.”

He described the joint commission as fruitful by stating that both countries will work to implement these strategic results.
