Nigeria on Sunday demanded a seat on the United Nations Security Council.
Defense Minister Mohammed Badaru made the call in his speech at the 2nd Future Interactive Dialogue Summit titled: โEnhancing Multilateralism for International Peace and Security,โ in New York, United States.
The summit is part of the 79th United Nations General Assembly.
He said Nigeria had earned the right to be a member of the UN Security Council after contributing to 41 peacekeeping missions by deploying over 200,000 troops.
The minister added that Nigeria has a long-standing commitment to international peace and security.
He said: โSince our first deployment in Congo in 1960, Nigeria has contributed to 41 peacekeeping missions around the world.โ

Badaru also called for reform of the UN Security Council to ensure Africa is represented with a permanent seat.
โNigeria has remained steadfast in its commitment to building international peace and security, since the first involvement of its troops in the Congo in 1960.
โTo date, Nigeria has contributed to 41 peacekeeping operations around the world, with over two hundred thousand Nigerian troops serving in UN peacekeeping missions.โ
โNigeria under regional and sub-regional cooperation has been involved in peacekeeping operations in field missions in several countries.
He listed the countries as including Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissau, Gambia, Liberia, Mali, Sudan and Sierra Leone.
