Nigeria is in seventh place among the most friendly nations in the world for strangers – United Nations Report

Despite the widespread institutional distrust and the bad satisfaction of life, Nigeria has emerged as one of the most hospitable nations in the world for strangers, classifying 7th globally in the relationship on world happiness of 2025.

The report, published by the network of Sustainable Development Solutions of the United Nations in collaboration with the Wellbeing Research Center and Gallup of the University of Oxford, has assessed 147 countries based on various indices, including prosocial behaviors how to help strangers, volunteering and charity donations.

The high ranking of Nigeria highlights the strong culture of the interpersonal generosity of the country, even if it fights with weak public institutions and overall levels at low happiness.

The country ranked 105 ° in the global happiness index, reflecting a profound dissatisfaction with governance, economic conditions and safety.

“Where institutional structures are weak, helping strangers probably becomes the most direct and effective form of benevolence,” observed the relationship.

The ranking places Nigeria between a group of countries where informal social support systems thrive in the absence of reliable formal structures. Others in the first 10 more friendly nations for strangers include Jamaica, Liberia, Trinidad, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Senegal, Venezuela, Ukraine and Zambia.

In a section of the relationship that evaluates the trust in the return of the lost wallets, Nigeria has ranked:

33 ° When the wallet is found by a stranger,

71 ° if found by a neighbor,

But a 126 in disorder when found by the police.

This contrast emphasizes the erosion of public trust in the police and in the official institutions of Nigeria, a trend that analysts support could worsen if not addressed.

In terms of charity donations, Nigeria has ranked 45th at a global level, suggesting that citizens are more likely to offer direct help from person to person rather than giving formal organizations.

The results of the relationship are added to the current conversations on the social resilience of Nigeria, often observed in its vibrant communities and in the informal support networks.

However, experts warn that without strengthening state institutions, this generosity can remain a coping mechanism rather than a reflection of sustainable development.
