‘Nigeria team must surpass 1996 Olympics achievement’

Minister of Sports Development, John Owan Enoh, said his goal for the 2024 Olympics is for Team Nigeria to surpass the country’s best Olympic achievement, achieved in 1996.

He made the remarks at a press conference earlier this week at the Media Centre, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, as he answered questions from journalists.

In his words: β€œAs with the African Games in Accra, Ghana, I will explain from the beginning, the rights granted to our athletes.

β€œMy aspiration is for this nation to surpass our previous record of best performance at the 1996 Olympics,” said Senator Enoh.

β€œWe have been working towards this goal through preparation, organization and performance teams working closely with athletes in Germany. I receive reports on the progress every day.”

“The entire Rp100 million donation from the DPR will be given entirely to the athletes,” he stressed.

In addition, athletes will receive local camping allowances, overseas training grants, overseas training camp allowances, Olympic allowances and winning bonuses.

The 2024 Olympics will take place between July 26 and August 11 in Paris.
