The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) reported on Sunday that several terrorists were killed in an airstrike targeting Malum Forest in Kaduna State.
The operation, which was carried out on August 24 by the Air Component of Operation Whirl Punch, was aimed at tackling the recent surge in terrorist activities affecting civilians, including kidnapping and cattle rustling in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, NAF spokesman, explained that intelligence had identified Malum Forest as a stronghold of terrorists who had moved from Alawa Forest in Niger State.
He said, “In response to the increasing terrorist activities targeting innocent civilians in Niger State, the Air Component of Operation Whirl Punch continues to work to track, locate and eliminate the terrorists responsible.”
Gabkwet noted that the operation resulted in the killing of several terrorists. He stated, “Battle damage assessment and feedback from local sources revealed that several terrorists were neutralized as a result of the attack.”

In addition to the Kaduna operation, similar attacks were carried out in Zamfara State.
Gabkwet reported, “A similar attack was also carried out on a terrorist hideout in Bayan Ruwa in Maradun LGA, Zamfara State. The terrorists were tracked to a zinc-roofed building in an overgrown area with few paths and a river line to the northwest of the location. The targets were later captured and attacked in a series of attacks.”
Furthermore, airstrikes in the Niger Delta region resulted in the destruction of a number of illegal oil refineries and their tanks.
Gabkwet noted, “In the Niger Delta Region, patrols conducted by the air component of Operation Delta Safe over Ohaji/Egbema in Imo State and Degema and Cawthorne Canals in Rivers State uncovered several illegal oil refineries and their tanks which were effectively destroyed.”
He added, “Overall, more than 25 illegal sites have been destroyed. In Greenville, Rivers State, the pipeline burst and the leak spread to a radius of more than 150 meters, causing negative impacts on vegetation, aquatic habitats and agricultural land.”
