Nigerian defense spokesman claims 1,937 suspected terrorists killed in three months

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) claimed on Thursday that troops deployed to operational areas across the country had killed 1,937 suspected terrorists in three months.

Director of Defense Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the operations of the armed forces in Abuja.

He said troops arrested 2,782 others and rescued 1,854 hostages during the period.

Buba said that from the perpetrators, his party also confiscated 1,304 firearms, 43,347 rounds of ammunition consisting of 688 AK-47 rifles, 32,945 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition, and 9,677 rounds of 7.62 mm NATO ammunition.

He added that several terrorist leaders, commanders and combatants were killed in several offensive operations across the operational area.

The spokesman said: “Those killed by the troops were Munzir Arika, Sani Dilla (Dan Hausawan Jubillaram), Ameer Modu, Matawal Bitrus, Thomas Benedict, Mohammed Sani, Rimamy (alias Omo), Terkimbi Injoko, Jacob Uzege and Ibn Kasir.

“Also killed were Kachalla Dan Baleri, Kachallah Halilu (Buzu), Kachalla Dan Ali Garin Fadama, Kachalla Basiru Zakarriya and Ofem Emmanuel Igwe, and several others.

“In the Northeast region, Operation Hadin Kai troops managed to neutralize 792 terrorists, arrest 606 suspects, and rescue 476 kidnapped hostages.

“At least 7,283 Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorist fighters and their families surrendered while troops recovered a number of arms and ammunition.

“The air component of Operation Hadin Kai conducted air interdiction in several terrorist pockets including Mount Mandara, Maradun and Tumbun Fulani South among others.

“The air interdiction carried out killed several terrorist leaders, commanders and combatants and destroyed their logistics storage sites.

“The troops managed to reduce the military capabilities of the terrorists by seizing 339 AK47 rifles, 58 homemade rifles, 9,653 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition, and 3,147 rounds of 7.62 mm NATO ammunition, etc.”
