Nigerian defense spokesman claims his troops killed 152 suspected terrorists in 7 days

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) claimed on Friday that troops deployed for anti-terrorism operations killed 152 suspected terrorists across the country last week.

Director of Defense Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, disclosed this while providing an update on the operations of the armed forces in Abuja.

He said troops arrested 109 others and rescued 91 hostages during the period.

Buba said his troops had for a week carried out surgical operations against two prominent terrorist commanders known as Sadiku and Alhaji Yusuf and destroyed their strongholds.

According to him, Sadiku’s enclave is located at Tsora Hill in Safana local government area of ​​Katsina State, while Alhaji Yusuf has his group’s hideout at Yadi Forest in Giwa local government area of ​​Kaduna State.

He said troops also arrested two women suspected of being accomplices of the terrorists and were tasked with negotiating with the victims’ families to demand ransom.

The spokesman said that during the operation, troops also secured 183 firearms, 4,443 rounds of ammunition consisting of 95 AK47 rifles, 35 domestically assembled rifles, 76 Dane rifles, one GPMG rifle, and two PKT rifles.

Also confiscated were 4,131 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition, 165 rounds of 7.62 mm NATO ammunition, 115 rounds of 7.62 x 54 mm ammunition, 28 bullets, 53 other types of firearms, and 197 rounds of other types of ammunition.

He said: β€œOverall, the brave men and women of the armed forces continue to take pride in risking their lives to ensure the safety and security of our citizens.

β€œInstead, citizens must continually see the need to show support for the troops to win the war.”
