Nigeria’s D’Tigress retained 8th place in the latest FIBA Women’s World Rankings, released on March 20, 2026.
The reigning African champions are the only African team in the top 10.
The new rankings come shortly after the conclusion of the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifiers.
D’Tigress opened qualifying with a 70–37 win over Colombia in Lyon, suffered a 77–60 loss to South Korea, then bounced back with a 101–84 win against the Philippines.
They subsequently lost to France (93-86) and Germany (81-73), despite lively performances.
The United States remains in first place, while France is in second place ahead of Australia.
China and Belgium complete the top five. Other African teams include Mali (18th), Senegal (22nd), Mozambique (34th) and Cameroon (37th).
South Sudan made the biggest leap, climbing 13 places to 42nd in the rankings after their first participation in the Wuhan Qualifying Tournament.
The FIBA ranking will be used to determine seedings for the 2026 Women’s World Cup draw scheduled for April 21.
