The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa on Wednesday inaugurated the expanded ministerial task team on the collapse of building in Nigeria.
The task team that was expanded, according to a statement issued by the Director of the Press and Public Relations from the Ministry of Housing and City Development, the Haiba Badamasi, consisted of representatives of the main professional bodies and regulatory institutions in the environment that were built, as well as the professional staff of the Ministry of Technical Department.
Professional bodies and regulatory institutions included in the task team are the Nigerian Architect Registration Council (Arcon), the Technical Regulation Council in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian quantity surveyor registration council (QSRBN), the Nigerian Town Registration Council (Toprec), and Nigeria surveyors.
Others are the Estate Surveyor and the Nigerian Assessment Registration Council (ESVARBON), the Nigerian registered builder board (Corbon), and the Building Collapse Prevention Guild (BCPG).

Dangiwa, in his remarks, frowned in a frequency that worried about the incident of the collapse of buildings in Nigeria and described it as unacceptable and national shame.
He said: “The tragedy that can be avoided has caused the loss of innocent lives, permanent disability for survivors, destroying property, and psychological trauma that cannot be improved for the family.”
The minister stated that last year he formed a committee about the collapse of buildings in Nigeria to examine the roots of the cause of the problem and propose practical and sustainable solutions.
He added that the committee led by ARC. Maji Liberty Alkali submitted his report and proposed 18 main recommendations.
